Announced as the Head Chef of Melbourne’s Maha restaurant in 2015 at just 23 years old, Daniel Giraldo is one of the hottest young gun chefs in Melbourne. From taking over the reins at Maha catering to its high end clientele, to guest chef appearances at the Taste of Melbourne Festival - Daniel continues to push the boundaries in the culinary world.
Born in Colombia, but living in the Caribbean Daniel worked for several years at the luxury Millennium Resort in the Dominican Republic before traveling extensively through the USA, Europe and South America to develop a palate and sensibility across a diverse range of cuisines. He firmly believes that continuing education and professional development is essential to his success in hospitality. As such Daniel sought out internships at leading restaurants across the globe including Germany’s Die Muhenhelle (1 Michelin Star).
Upon his arrival in Melbourne, Daniel took the position of Sous Chef at the 4-star restaurant of the Rydges Hotel Melbourne. After almost two years in this role he was offered an opportunity to work under ex-Vue de Monde Head Chef, Andrew Harmer at The Point Albert Park as Sous chef.
Daniel commenced working at Shane Delia’s Maha restaurant in February 2014 as Sous Chef and was announced as Head Chef in September that same year. Every year since, Maha has retained its one Chefs Hat in The Age Good Food Guide under Daniel’s leadership.
