Celebrity chef Massimo Mele has worked in top restaurants in Australia and around the world in places such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Seoul and Italy. He’s a preferred caterer for many big brands, a lead name at food events and a favourite of international celebrities. He’s cooked for big names including Elton John, Hugh Jackman and Beyoncè and Jay Z and more recently, after moving back to his home state of Tasmania, demonstrated his unique cooking skills at foodie events such as City of Hobart’s Winter Feast at Dark Mofo, Taste of Port Douglas, Noosa Food & Wine and Melbourne Tomato Festival. Now, Massimo is adding Executive Chef of Sydney’s newest Italian restaurant at Salt Meat Cheese Sydney (opening in August), to his already impressive repertoire.

You’ll be treated to four delicious courses of Italian fare from a menu created especially for the evening including canapés (melting cheese wheels over the fire with fried pizza and ham), antipasto (Pirates Bay octopus cooked on the fire pit with almonds, chickpeas and olives), pasta (hand rolled macaroni, slow cooked waygu beef, porcini and fontina cheese), mains (whole porchetta cooked on the spit stuffed with fennel, garlic and rosemary plus roasted eggplant, bell peppers and whipped potato), dessert (Tiramisu ‘definitely not classic’) with gorgeous wines from Tasmania.
As an extra special treat Massimo will also share his food journey with you, so you’ll get an insight into how an Italian kid growing up in Australia learnt the art of cooking Italian food and then turned it on it’s head and decided to do it his way.
