BET YOU DIDN'T KNOWAfter your helicopter ride over Sydney, you'll enjoy dinner at an exclusive five-star hotel with a fantastic view of Sydney Opera House, Sydney's most iconic building. The building is the product of the imagination of Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who won a design competition for the building in 1957. The Opera House then faced more than a decade of development, before finally opening in 1973.
The building is created in a modern expressionist design, with a series of unique concrete shells. Though these shells appear to be uniformly white, in actuality they are covered in a subtle pattern, with 1,056,006 glossy white- and matte-cream-coloured Swedish-made tiles from Höganäs AB. The building houses seven distinct performance spaces, as well as numerous function halls, cafés, and more.
This beauty of modern architecture was also very controversial. Utzon resigned before the building was completed, as tensions grew between the architecture team and the government. But in the end, the building was of course completed, and now stands as one of the most beautiful and unique structures in the world.
